Terroir and Winemaking

Two terroirs, a couple of wine growers and oenologists,
a Domaine, more than 10 different wines

The terroir is very important in viticulture and it is impossible to talk about a wine without mentioning it, but then what exactly is it?! We must understand that wine is shaped by four elements which are the land, the vines, the climate and us: the winegrowers!
Terroir

The part of the farm located in Montaren is in AOP Duché d’Uzès. It is the northernmost terroir of the farm, between hillsides and scrubland, sandstone soils (small limestone and clay pebbles), lean soils, a more humid and cold climate, less exposed to the mistral.

The vines located in Montfrin, with soils of rolled pebbles, are located on two AOP terroirs:The Côtes du Rhône village and the Costières de Nîmes. There we find the oldest plots of the farm such as that of Grenache noir which is 54 years old.

In order to best express the potential of our different terroirs and to obtain quality grapes, we will pay particular attention to the vineyard with sustainable agriculture, extensive green work (training, leaf stripping and green harvesting), soil and careful monitoring.

Concerning the harvest, in order to preserve the quality of the grapes as much as possible, the harvest is manual in 15Kg crates and a first sorting is carried out on foot.

We wanted to mention even briefly the work carried out with meticulousness in the vines and the importance of this because for us, oenologists and winegrowers, it is essential to emphasize that the quality of the grapes picked is the parameter having the most impact on the final quality of the products. proposed. Suffice it to say that there are no good wines without good grapes!
The Estate is labeled High Environmental Value and is in conversion to organic farming.

Winemaking

The vinifications are meticulous and thorough with long macerations and daily work on the marc caps. Vinification and aging are defined according to profiles. The vast majority of our range is aged for 12 months in oak barrels or half barrels. The winemaking equipment is adapted to small volumes, allowing us to preserve the typicity of each plot right through to blending.

Wines

Although our terroirs allow us to claim different AOCs, we have made the decision to vinify our entire range under the IGP Coteaux du Pont du Gard name. Indeed, we wish to enjoy maximum freedom for our winemaking: to vinify high-end single-varietal products, original products such as natural sweet wine... Above all, we want to develop a strong identity around our Domaine name and its location. geographical.
